Lenten Almsgiving

Over the last several years, Sacred Heart has compiled a list of charitable causes and organizations to support in participation of the Almsgiving pillar of the Season of Lent. We will continue the tradition this year, and each weekend a different cause will be earmarked for support. This weekend, as was mentioned in the closing announcements last Sunday, we will be asking for donations to the 2026 Catholic Ministry Appeal. For those of you who have already given a gift to this year’s appeal, thank you, and please disregard this request. For those of you who have not given a gift but are able to make a donation, we will have a second collection this weekend. Though Sacred Heart’s goal for the appeal increased significantly this year, I am confident that we can rise to the occasion and make our goal if everyone helps! On behalf of Bishop Parkes and the thousands of people throughout the five counties of our diocese, thank you for your generosity.

Next weekend, we will be asking for donations of long-sleeved shirts for the seasonal migrant workers here on agricultural visas to help plant and harvest our local produce, including strawberries, in the fields of the rural parts of our diocese. The assistance of these hard-working people is vital to our local economy, and they deserve our kindness and support. These shirts protect them from harmful UV rays and other skin irritants. Please bring in donations of men’s or women’s medium, large, or x-large long-sleeved shirts (Sun blocking shirts are an added bonus) to be distributed to our local migrant workers.
