The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be offered the weekend of August 29th-30th immediately following each Mass. This healing sacrament is intended for baptized Catholics facing serious physical, mental, or emotional illness, preparing for major surgery, weakened by advanced age, or otherwise in grave spiritual need.
Who Should Receive the Sacrament?
- Serious Illness: Those diagnosed with a severe, chronic, or life-threatening condition.
- Upcoming Surgery: Individuals preparing for a major medical operation or procedure.
- Advanced Age: The elderly whose physical strength is significantly weakened, even without a specific acute illness.
- Spiritual or Mental Burden: Those suffering from deep psychological, emotional, or spiritual distress.
Guidelines for Participation
- Not for Everyone: Unlike Holy Communion, this is a specialized sacramental rite of healing and is reserved for those who fit the specific criteria listed on the left.
- Location: If you plan to receive the anointing, please move to the pews near the front/center aisle immediately after the final blessing.
- State of Grace: When possible, recipients should be lucid and have a basic desire for the sacrament. If they are conscious of grave (mortal) sin they should confess before receiving the anointing.
