Speaking of Lent…

Some people give up chocolate!

It is not too early to begin reflecting on your Lenten commitment. Will you take on a service project or a spiritual discipline? Will you fast for a time from sports, screens, some food, or activity? Lent doesn’t have to be just another 6 weeks of the year. It can be a big step in your life’s journey!

A special Lenten Bible Study

We are thrilled to be able to offer a 6-week study based on the book “Witness at the Cross” by New Testament scholar Amy Jill Levine. “Experience Holy Friday from the perspective of those who watched Jesus die: Mary his mother; the Beloved Disciple from the Gospel of John; Mary Magdalene and the other women from Galilee; the two men, usually identified as thieves, crucified with Jesus; the centurion and the soldiers; Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. Jews and Romans, friends and strangers, the powerful and the powerless, the hopeful and the despairing” (jacket cover).

Levine will undoubtedly provide a different perspective. She is a Jewish, New Testament scholar and her background will allow us to see things as first century Jews might have experienced them. In other words, we won’t be looking back at what they should have experienced but will confront what that day would have been like without the knowledge of the resurrection.

Paperback and Kindle versions are available on Amazon. Join us for the study, Tuesdays 9-10:30am or 6-7:30pm in the parish hall beginning March 8th. Or buy the book and study it on your own!

Lent is a great time for service! Here’s an idea!

Did you know that not everyone can attend Mass? Sadly, it is true. We have parishioners who are no longer able to drive and therefore cannot get to Mass. Prior to the pandemic, Sacred Heart provided bus transportation stopping at individual homes and some care facilities. We’d love to restart this ministry. If you would be willing to be involved – either driving our small bus or using your car – please call the office to let us know.
